Kaieteur Sports – The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) executives including Chairman of National Senior Selectors, Head Coach, Harpy Eagles’ captain, among others, gave insight to the ongoing developments in and around the team as it relates to the Kevin Sinclair/Ronaldo Alimohamed non-selection ahead of the upcoming Regional 4-Day season.
Saturday’s press conference held upstairs the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Pavilion featured Harpy Eagles Head Coach Ryan Hercules, Chief Selector Ramnaresh Sarwan, Eagles skipper Tevin Imlach, Physio Angelica Holder and Operations Manager Anthony D’andrade; who dove deep into the happenings regarding the two key all-rounders missing out on selection with the season days away.

Touching on a number of topics surrounding the non-selection of primarily all-rounders Sinclair and Alimohamed, the former Guyana/Windies skipper Sarwan confirmed that in the case of Sinclair, his attitude towards the game as well as his teammates has reached a detrimental state.
The Chairman of Senior Selectors gave insight into the most recent incident which occurred during the second Harpy Eagles 4-Day practice game at Everest where the Berbician changed into street clothes with no intentions of taking to the field again, following a request to use the bathroom; with the game still in play.
Guyana Harpy Eagles skipper Imlach also confirmed the events of game 2, “In the game he claimed he had to go to the washroom, we had about three wickets left and he changed into casual clothes and he didn’t look like he had plans to come back onto the field”, said the skipper.
Sarwan added that overall, the Sinclair situation has been a bit difficult with little progress made to date.
The chief selector explained that the Sinclair fiasco has somewhat affected the environment within the team, something Imlach chimed in on as he explained that despite the off-field shenanigans, missing a few players and the overall road to having the right mindset heading into this year’s 4-Day Championships; is still the team’s main goal
GCB Cricket Operations Boss, D’Andrade further explained that the GCB received a number of reports regarding Sinclair, adding that the board itself had been in constant contact with the former West Indies Test player while lending support in a bid to help maintain his career; despite the incidents.
The GCB operations manager added that Sinclair, despite everything, has not been victimized in any capacity and has still managed to play in a number of tournaments both home and away.
“The Head coach complained about the disruptive behavior from Sinclair on and off the field”, said Dandrade, who explained that the all-rounder had also failed to turn up to meetings including one with the CEO of the GCB, who was there to help resolve any issues with the youngster.
The GCB Operations head, when asked if the board had sought any form of mental health guidance or counseling during the Sinclair fallout, confirmed that they made attempts to get some assistance from a sports psychiatrist as far as England but nothing concrete has yet been put in place.
Meanwhile, Physio Holder, giving an update on Alimohamed’s status as well as his non-selection, said the fast-bowling all-rounder’s injured groin would have ruled him out despite no signs of aches and pains.
Holder added that due to the nature of injury a return to play protocol must be followed. She noted that even if players are pain-free after the first week additional clearance protocols such as reaching their normal baseline jump height, completion of sprints among other areas of assessing one’s peak physical status are conducted.
Thereafter, the assessment will be topped off by reaching overall match fitness clearance, to which the green light is then given by the head coach; adding that the weather has also hurt some of those assessments being carried out on schedule.
In all, both Head Selector and Head Coach were confident that this was not the end of the road for Sinclair, as his immense talent is still a great value to the team; once he gets himself together.
Sarwan also basically issued a no-nonsense approach to how players will be handled as it relates to disciplinary issues and how situations are treated.
