Windwards, T&T notch up wins as Guyana/Barbados continue to battle weather

Kaieteur Sports – A slightly more productive round of U16 regional youth cricket yesterday, was headlined by wins for Windward Islands as well as Trinidad and Tobago, leaving both Guyana and Barbados stuck in a back and forth tussle with the weather which forced another abandonment yesterday.
Windwards beat Leewards by 61 runs at the Coolidge Cricket Ground.
After opener Derwin Lewis dropped the first ton of what could be considered a mixed tournament, Windwards continued to own the Leewards.
Derwin Lewis scored a classy ton yesterday.
The left-hander Lewis cracked a classy 102 with more than 12 boundaries in total, with help from Alex Armstrong (47) and captain Jershaun Joseph (29) which took Windwards to 217 all out in the 49th over.
The duo of Kamari France (4-42) and Aedan Williams (3-30), continued to carry the Leewards bowling, but could not save their team from crashing to 156-9 in 43 overs.
Only Isaiah Harris (33) and Dante Odlum (31) looked the part as Windwards’ Dylan John followed up another amazing game with the ball by grabbing 4-34, which put a stop to the chase.
Dylan John had another solid game with the ball.
Trinidad & Tobago beat Jamaica by 39 runs at the JB Cricket Ground.
In a low-scoring affair, Trinidad and Tobago beat Jamaica after miraculously defending the 86 all out which they made batting first.
K’Hill Thomas (15), Samir Boodoo (12) and Marley Richards (11*) were the leading scorers for Trinidad, after the Jamaican trio of Rahiem Livingston (4-25), Rajae Mcgeachy (3-21) and Hugh Turner’s (2-14) exceptional efforts with the ball went up in smoke.
Jamaica were then muzzled for a paltry 47 all out in the 28th over, after a mind-blowing spell from Trinidadian Arnaldo Premchand who snared 7-6 from 8.5 overs; which left Jeremiah Johnson (15) as the leading scorer for his team.
Guyana, Barbados abandoned yet again due to bad weather
Over in Guyana, rain continued to toy with all outdoor activities, most notably sports and in this case the highly anticipated battle between the Bajans and the Guyanese.
Action yesterday at Police Ground was called off due to bad weather, further dampening hopes of having a bright end to the tournament with just a few games left.
The next round is set for Saturday, with fingers crossed ahead of what was dubbed to be a rainy week in Guyana; more than ever sunshine will be a huge silver lining as fans and players alike pray for a full day of cricket. (Clifton Ross)
