The Barbados lads have been keeping themselves busy with mini tours, shopping, games and team bonding as they look forward to brighter remainder of the tournament.
Kaieteur Sports – Ravaged by rain, the highly anticipated washed-out encounters between Guyana and Barbados, have set the two teams back in the competition, but Manager of the Bajan side Sherwin Greene said his lads have been keeping themselves occupied as they remain on the lookout for a possible silver lining.
Speaking with Host Andrew Mason on his show Tuesday night as one of the guests on the panel, Manager Greene updating the listeners said the two washed out games were beyond saving despite the tremendous efforts by the Guyanese groundsmen; who earned top praises for trying to make the venue playable despite the torrential conditions.
“The ground was saturated with water. The ground staff, I must give them all credit but their efforts were not enough”, said the manager., who compared the Lusignan Ground to the Maple Club Ground in Barbados as it relates to what could occur during a day or two of persistent rainfall, but nevertheless added that the team was in high spirits despite the lack of gameplay.
“We took them for short walks around the area. We went to Giftland Mall for a walk around and to do a little shopping. We also drove around the area” and added that he also purchased some dominoes to help his players pass the time while keeping a sharp mindset.
While the players and teams respectively have suffered due to the bad weather, the Bajan Manager also revealed that a number of supporters from back home; most of which consists of family members, have also felt the brunt of Mother Nature.
“Parents and some other relatives came over to watch the boys. So we have parents and relatives who came over, I would say we have like 25 parents who have come over to see the boys play”.
Officials opted to play Tuesday’s abandoned Game 2 on Wednesday, which further tested the resolve and grit of both teams as they head into today’s round of action. (Clifton Ross)
