Kaieteur Sports – The Guyana Golf Association (GGA), in collaboration with Nexgen Golf Academy and Westside Golf Course, continues its nationwide initiative to make golf more accessible to secondary school students, with a recent focus on Regions 1 and 2.
As part of this ongoing effort, golf equipment and balls were donated to support the development of school programmes in these regions.
Recent Cyril Potter College of Education graduates, Sir Whem France and Ms. Veron John, who recently completed specialized training at Nexgen Golf Academy were equipped with the necessary tools to introduce and sustain golf programmes within their respective schools, ensuring readiness for both the CSEC Physical Education curriculum and the upcoming National Junior Golf Championship.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sports on Tuesday, GGA president Aleem Hussain said the sport has been growing quickly across all levels of the academic diaspora.
Hussain believed that due to the success which the GGA has managed to extract from within Guyana’s learning community from the previous years; more schools are rapidly hopping on board and taking the sport seriously by virtue of the Physical Education curriculum which is a major facet across schools’ CSEC programme.
Meanwhile, Nexgen Golf Academy and Westside Golf Course have intensified their preparation efforts for the 2026 CSEC examinations.
Students from several schools such as Berbice Educational Institute, Bush Lot Secondary School, Hope Secondary School, Queen’s College, Westminster Secondary School, and Tucville Secondary School have been participating in intensive final prep training sessions led by Aleem Hussain (Master Coach) and Philip Haynes (LPGA Girls Site Director) at Nexgen Golf Academy.
With growing interest and participation, it is anticipated that more than 250 students will select golf as their CSEC Physical Education elective in 2026.
Guyana continues to lead the Caribbean in youth golf development, driven by the sustained and collaborative efforts of the Guyana Golf Association, Nexgen Golf Academy, and Westside Golf Course.
