Malouda rolls back a few decades, headlining with a brace as French Guiana Vets tumbles GFF President’s XI
Kaieteur Sports – Former Chelsea and French star Florent Malouda rolled back the years on Wednesday evening, producing a vintage display with a brace as the French Guiana Veterans edged the GFF President’s XI 3-2 in an entertaining exhibition match at the National Training Centre (NTC), Providence.
The special encounter, staged as part of Malouda’s visit to Guyana, drew football enthusiasts eager to witness one of the game’s most decorated former players share the field with several of Guyana’s football greats in a celebration of the sport.
Exhibition Football like no other: Several stars of Guyana’s football but in the recent and extended past had a chance to face off with France and Chelsea’s celebrated winger Florent Malouda. Both teams embracing each other, after French Guiana 3-2 win of GFF President’s XI.
From the opening whistle, the atmosphere reflected the occasion as the NTC was transformed into a football showpiece. Supporters were treated to a reunion of some of the country’s most recognisable former players, while Guyana Football Federation (GFF) President Wayne Forde led his President’s XI against a French Guiana Veterans outfit spearheaded by the French Winger, Malouda.
Forde’s side, dressed in blue and red, looked the more threatening during the opening exchanges, but the contest truly came alive after the interval as both teams settled into an entertaining end-to-end affair.
Malouda still got it! Wednesday evening several Guyanese had a chance to witness the aura of former French player, Florent Malouda (with ball) live in action at the Providence, National Training Centre.
Malouda, who represented France at the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups and featured in the 2006 FIFA World Cup final, reminded spectators of the quality that made him one of Europe’s finest wingers. The French Guiana-born attacker struck twice with composed finishes to put the visitors in control, while Delroy Fraser added the decisive third goal.
The GFF President’s XI refused to go quietly, however, with former Golden Jaguars forwards Gregory “Jackie Chan” Richardson and Anthony Abrams each finding the back of the net to keep the contest alive until the final whistle.

Despite their spirited fightback, Malouda’s brace proved the difference as the French Guiana Veterans secured a thrilling 3-2 victory.
Malouda’s decorated playing career includes a UEFA Champions League title, a Premier League crown and three FA Cup triumphs with Chelsea, along with 80 international appearances for France. His presence in Guyana offered local fans a rare opportunity to watch one of football’s modern greats perform up close.
The evening’s festivities extended beyond the final whistle. Continuing his engagement with the local football community, Malouda presented Coca-Cola footballs to children and supporters in attendance, with the balls donated by Banks DIH Limited.
The presentation underscored the Guyana Football Federation’s continued efforts to use the sport to inspire young players and strengthen community engagement, ensuring Malouda’s visit left a lasting impression both on and off the pitch.
