(Kaieteur News) – Five-year-old Kaiden Williams has endured more loss and pain than most people face in a lifetime. Last year, he lost his mother to cancer. Now, he is fighting for his own life against the same disease.

What first appeared to be an insect bite near his left eye turned out to be something far more serious. Doctors diagnosed Kaiden with Stage III rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. He began chemotherapy immediately, but the tumor continued to grow. Kaiden has since lost his left eye, and the cancer has continued spreading, altering his face in ways no child should have to endure.

5-year-old needs US$25,000 for cancer treatment

Five-year-old Kaiden Williams has a rare and aggressive cancer called Stage III rhabdomyosarcoma.

US-based Saving Hands Emergency Aid (SHEA) is leading efforts to raise the funds needed to save Kaiden, whose condition requires specialized care not available in Guyana. The charity confirmed that the National Cancer Institute in India has accepted his case for treatment.

The full cost of Kaiden’s care including surgery, chemotherapy, housing, meals, and transportation, is estimated at approximately US$25,000. SHEA has launched a public fundraising campaign to help cover these expenses.

Kaiden’s father, Kevin, is still grieving the loss of his wife while doing everything he can to save his son. Between hospital visits, caring for Kaiden and his other child, and the weight of his own grief, SHEA says it has become nearly impossible for him to keep up with work.

“We’re asking you to help give this little boy the chance his mother would have wanted for him: a future,” the charity wrote in its initial Facebook appeal. “Every donation brings Kaiden one step closer to life-saving treatment. If you can’t donate today, please share his story. It could reach the person who can. Thank you for standing with Kaiden and his family.”

Tumor spreading rapidly

In a follow-up post, SHEA said Kaiden’s condition is worsening quickly and causing him significant pain. “Over the past two days alone, it has broken through his cheek and has now started growing inside his mouth,” the charity said. “Watching this happen has been heartbreaking. Our biggest fear right now is that, if it continues growing at this pace, Kaiden may soon lose the ability to eat. There is nothing more that can be done for him in Guyana. His only chance is to get to India, where the specialised treatment he desperately needs is available.”
