Defence! 32 Secondary Schools commenced battle for 2026 title as the 12th Annual Massy Distribution Boy’s U18 Football tournament kicks off.
Kaieteur Sports – The ultimate Secondary Schools Football challenge kicked off yesterday at the Queen’s College Ground in Georgetown, delivering an action-packed opening day. Title sponsor Massy Distribution witnessed a tightly contested start as Zeeburg Secondary, Charity Secondary, West Ruimveldt Secondary and Ann’s Grove Secondary secured impressive victories to launch the 2026 edition in style.
Annandale Secondary were the first to claim honours, capturing the March Past trophy with a well-organised and tactically sound display during the traditional opening ceremony. Following the colourful proceedings, fourteen determined teams took to the field to begin their quest for the 2026 title.
The tournament opened with a few simultaneous fixtures. Zeeburg Secondary faced Hope Secondary, while Patentia Secondary battled East Ruimveldt Secondary on the adjacent pitch. The latter encounter proved to be a thrilling contest. Patentia took the lead in the 27th minute through Johnathan Redman and doubled their advantage in the 41st minute courtesy of Yohan Bobb. Trailing 2-0, East Ruimveldt mounted a spirited comeback, with Josiah Norton pulling one back before Jahiem Heibert netted the equaliser to secure a 2-2 draw at the final whistle.
Meanwhile, Zeeburg Secondary enjoyed a confident start, defeating Hope Secondary 2-0. Quincy Evans and Anthony Cameron found the back of the net in the 54th and 60th minutes respectively to seal the victory.

West Ruimveldt Secondary starts with convincing win as Massy U18 Football championship gets underway.
In other matches, Charity Secondary delivered a dominant performance against Vryman Erven Secondary, overturning an early deficit to secure victory. Johnny Smith led the charge with a brace in the 24th and 60th minutes. West Minster Secondary and St Joseph High, however, played to an entertaining 1-1 draw. Alexandro Sankar gave West Minster an early lead within the first five minutes, but Leeman McAbee responded in the 59th minute to earn St Joseph a share of the points.
West Ruimveldt Secondary later underlined their title ambitions with a commanding 3-0 win over Yarrowkabra Secondary. Donavan Welcome was the standout performer, netting twice in the 10th and 20th minutes, while Lyndon Gray added a third in the 26th minute to complete a dominant display.
One of the day’s biggest upsets came when Ann’s Grove Secondary defeated defending champions Dolphin Secondary 4-2. After a disappointing 2025 campaign, Ann’s Grove signalled their resurgence with an emphatic performance. Kennard Halley and Isaiah Williamson each scored twice, overpowering the reigning champions, who could only manage two consolation goals.
In another fixture, Charlestown Secondary and St John’s College played to a goalless draw, with both sides unable to break the deadlock. Action continues today at the same venue with eight more exciting round one matches.
The tournament is sponsored by Massy Distribution, with Demerara Mutual Group providing personal accident insurance coverage for all participating players. The competition is approved by the Ministry of Education and coordinated by the Petra Organisation.
