– Scheduled for March 21-April 4; the event is aimed at revitalizing the sport in Guyana
Kaieteur Sports – In response to the noticeable decline of rugby participation across the country in recent years, the Guyana Rugby Union (GRU) has unveiled a new initiative aimed at reigniting interest in the sport by introducing the Easter Rugby Camp.
The camp is scheduled to take place at the National Park’s rugby field on March 21 and 28, and April 4. Each session will run from 10:30 hrs to 13:30 hrs, offering a structured and engaging environment for each participant.
Open to all, the event invites any young individual, both male and female, interested in getting involved in rugby. The camp is designed to be inclusive and developmental. Participants will benefit from hands-on coaching focused on teaching the fundamentals of the game, improving technical skills, and building physical strength and awareness.
A team of experienced coaches will be present throughout the sessions, working closely with attendees to ensure active participation and skill development. The initiative also aims to foster a renewed sense of enthusiasm for rugby and encourage more able-body prospects to join the local rugby community.
To add to the overall experience, snacks and beverages will be provided daily. Additionally, secured parking will be available via the Thomas Lands entrance, ensuring a safe and convenient environment for both participants and parents/guardians.
The Guyana Rugby Union is optimistic that this initiative will serve as a stepping stone toward rebuilding the sport and nurturing a new generation of rugby players.
For further information, interested persons can contact the GRU via email at guyanarugbyunion@outlook.com or reach out to the following representatives; Ryan Gonsalves: 624-2020, Alwin Etwah: 642-0056, Carrin Carter: 662-4225 or Anisa Carter: 672-7280.
The Easter Rugby Camp marks a proactive effort by the GRU to restore rugby’s prominence and create fresh opportunities for youth engagement in Guyana.
