(Kaieteur News) – A 24-year-old man of Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke-Linden Highway was arrested on Thursday after he was found with a quantity of suspected cannabis at Bartica, Region Seven.
According to police reports, the discovery was made between 11:10hrs and 11:30hrs during an operation conducted at Bartica.
During the operation, ranks conducted searches on an incoming speedboat travelling from Parika to Bartica. Upon the vessel’s arrival at the Bartica Stelling, all passengers were taken to the Bartica Police Station where they were searched along with their personal belongings.
Police reported that ranks conducted a search on the 24-year-old man and while searching a bag in his possession, six bulky parcels wrapped in brown paper were found.
Upon further examination, the parcels were found to contain leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis. Police said he was arrested and taken to the Bartica Police Station along with the suspected cannabis, which was weighed in his presence and amounted to 682 grams.
An investigation is ongoing.
