(Kaieteur News) – The road has long been seen as a male-dominated space, but women around the world are rewriting that narrative. Right here in Guyana, the team at Guyana Logistics and Support Services Inc. (GLASS) is taking that charge seriously, ensuring that gender equality in the workplace remains a priority by literally driving progress forward.
This International Women’s Day, GLASS highlights its female drivers, who are not only claiming their place on the road but also proving that empowerment sometimes begins with simply turning the key in the ignition.
Tiffany George, Samantha Holder, Rebecca Naraine, Niambi Bourne, and Asma Samad are skilled and capable drivers making their mark in the industry.
For Tiffany, working in a male-dominated field is empowering. She shared, “While some might be intimidated, I find it liberating to constantly overcome bias and prove my competence. It also gives me a sense of pride to present myself as a role model for younger generations,”

Samantha echoed a similar sentiment, noting that entering the field strengthened her determination and self-belief.
“Rather than seeing it as a barrier, I saw it as an opportunity to challenge stereotypes and prove that capability is not defined by gender. I wanted to demonstrate that women can thrive in any profession when given the opportunity and when they believe in themselves.
Being a driver gives me a sense of freedom and purpose. It allows me to work independently, support myself, and show others — especially young women — that they should never limit their ambitions based on societal expectations.”
She left school at an early age to help care for her parents and siblings, stepping into responsibility long before many others her age. She began her career as a sand truck driver and has since grown into her role, confidently navigating the roadways.
Rebecca says her mother is her greatest inspiration. Watching her mother show courage in the face of illness motivated Rebecca to believe she could overcome anything and become anyone she aspired to be. Today, she finds joy in her work as a driver with GLASS, where she enjoys meeting and interacting with new people every day.
Niambi Bourne says she entered the field with a clear mission: to show that women can go anywhere and do anything.
“Driving isn’t just a job for me — it’s independence, strength, and breaking limits,” she said.
At GLASS, equality is more than a promise — it is a daily practice. This International Women’s Day, the logistics company proudly celebrates the women who continue to drive progress forward.
