Kaieteur Sports – A historic day for motorsport came to fruition yesterday as Jumbo Jet Events launched its Nitro Kart Klash, where over $5M in cash and prizes will be up for grabs across various classes.
In keeping with the Jumbo Jet event style, the March 28 and 29 event at the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) Thomas lands karting track will see hefty sums for winners of the various classes.
Already creating a buzz in racing circles, the event, according to organizer Andre Rochford, is aimed at bringing back grassroots racing to youths in the sport.

Organizer Andre Rochford, Briggs and Stratton Promoter Stefan Jeffrey, Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) President Shairaz Roshandin and Nitro Kart Clash Chief Steward Phillip Parag took a photo op at the conclusion of the launch.
According to Rochford, the idea is to ensure that youths whose parents are racers have an avenue into the sport while also giving them a chance to develop their skills in a safe, controlled environment.
“For the first time, we are announcing huge cash prizes for the adult races to give it a competitive spin, and we also have vouchers for the youth drivers to ensure that we keep that competitive spirit,” he said.
On the basis of event management, the promoter indicated that there will be more than enough room to house what they expect to be a large following for this returning brand.
“We are going to transform this facility much to our counterparts internationally. We are going to set up a 120 ft by 24 ft elevated bleacher, which will be covered, for our viewers, the fans, and the families of the drivers and participants of the event. We are also going to set up an elevated VVIP deck across Malteenoes ground, which will give our VVIP patrons secure indoor parking, an elevated view and a ringside view of the track. We also are providing a separate access for the carts, the crew, and mechanics across at Malteenoes as well.”
One of the new events, the Briggs and Stratton class, is expected to make big waves when it debuts with several categories and promoter Stefan Jeffrey believes that it will represent the future of motorsport at that level.
“It was a way to revitalize grassroots motorsport, being a budget-friendly, sealed engine, low-cost way to get competitive in the sport and bring the barrier to entry lower in the sport.
With this class, it’s designed to get a lot more people into sport by being budget-friendly.

We are pretty excited to bring this class to Guyana and its one that’s been very successful in North America being one of the biggest kart classes currently competing. Some events see upwards of 600 competitors in this class across the various age groups.”
The blessing of the GMR&SC was pivotal in realizing the vision of Jumbo Jet Events and the club was all too thrilled to see the resurgence of that facet of the sport here, with President Mohamed Shairaz Roshandin contending.
“I like the initiative and I’m very interested to see what this karting event will bring to motor racing. They [Jumbo Jet Events] have taken the initiative to and now they are into motor racing and to promote the sport in a different direction where we are going to bring talent from the karting level which most of the international drivers around the world start from. This can move us in the right direction, where we can start grooming our young drivers.”
And with the dormancy of karting for a prolonged period, there were assurances that all measures will be put in place to ensure a safe day of racing, as chief steward Phillip Parag told the media.
The two-day event kicks off with scrutineering and qualifying on March 28, 2026, from 10:00hrs and will be followed up racing from 10:00hrs the following day, with gates opening at 08:00hrs.
The Nitro Karting Klash also has Banks DIH, AJM Enterprise, KP Jagdeo General Contractors, J’s Supermarket, 555 Speedway, SCI (Sawhs Construction Inc) Precision Service Centre and Ramchands Autobody onboard as sponsors.
The racing classes on the day are the Brigs and Stratton (Sealed engine) for both Heavy and Light (weight classes) for Seniors as well as the Juniors (13-15 years) and Cadet (6-12), 200c Honda 4 Stroke Promotors class as well as a light class, 125cc IAME 2 Stroke Heavy and Light 2-stroke, U12 60cc IAME, Time attack Open (5Laps), 555 Speedway Rental Karts race as well as Super-moto 250cc bikes.
