Kaieteur Sports – As opportunity meets ambition, Guyana’s Lady Jags will be hunting their first win of the 2025/26 campaign when they face Dominica in their home fixture of the CONCACAF Women’s World Cup Qualifiers today at the Leonora Track and Field Centre.
Tension is high following a pulsating opening round that produced 34 matches and 102 goals. Guyana will be eager to capitalise on home advantage, especially after suffering an early 3-1 defeat to Nicaragua in their December outing.
The Lady Jags currently sit third in Group B, led by Nicaragua with two wins, Jamaica in second. Antigua and Barbuda and Dominica complete the standings. Victory tonight is within reach but the determined Dominicans stand firmly in their path.
With preparations completed, the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has named the final squad to represent the Golden Arrowhead against a formidable Dominican side.
Between the posts, three reliable shot-stoppers have been selected: Arden La-Rose (Ohio State University), Ludesha Reynolds (Michigan Technological University) and Deekola Chester (Police FC).
The defensive unit will feature Jenea Knight (Charleston Southern University), Savanna Mondesir-Singh (Christian Brothers University), Adia Ritchie (United Futbol Academy), Glendy Lewis (GDF FC) and Niomie Williams (GDF FC).
In midfield, Brianne Desa (Pickering FC), Samantha Banfield (Pickering FC), Hannah Baptiste (Sutton United), Savannah Vivia Singh (Catawba College), Alexis Bayley (Unionville UMSC) and Glengie Lewis (GDF FC) are expected to dictate the tempo.
Leading the attack are Hope Windebank (Pickering FC), Otesha Charles (Chatham Town FC), Calaigh Copland (Impero Venom), Annalisa Vincent (Talladega College), Adelina Ritchie (United Futbol Academy), Anya Tribune (Gardner Webb University), Shamya Daniels (Talladega College), Shanic Thornhill (Police FC) and Sandra Johnson (GDF FC).
The technical bench will be headed by Omar Khan, supported by Lead Assistant Coach Nasser Abdalla and Assistant Coach/Video Analyst Dirk Quik. Meaghan Phillips will oversee the goalkeepers. Andrea Johnson serves as Team Manager, while Dr. Charlyn Elliot (Team Doctor/Welfare Officer) and Natisha Mokutnauth (Team Physiotherapist) head the medical team.
Following tonight’s clash, Guyana will turn their attention to an away encounter against Antigua and Barbuda on March 5 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
At the conclusion of the qualifiers, the six group winners will advance to the eight-team CONCACAF W Championship, joining regional powerhouses the United States and Canada. The tournament will serve as CONCACAF’s qualifying pathway to the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027 and the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympic Games.
