(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has suspended the licence privileges of an Air Services Limited (ASL) pilot pending a full investigation into an aircraft incident that occurred on Thursday at Matthews Ridge, Region One.
According to the GCAA, the ASL aircraft landed on the prepared surface of the runway but overran onto an unprepared section, resulting in a punctured tyre on the left landing gear.
In a preliminary report, the Authority said the ASL pilot operated outside the provisions of a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued on October 23, 2025. The notice, issued by the Government of Guyana through the GCAA, had advised pilots to exercise heightened caution during approach, landing and take-off at the Matthews Ridge runway, which is currently undergoing upgrades. As part of standard operating procedures, all air operators are required to ensure their pilots acknowledge and sign all NOTAMs during pre-flight preparations to confirm awareness and compliance.
The Authority had earlier reported two separate incidents at Matthews Ridge on Thursday morning. The first occurred at 07:55hrs and involved a Cessna 208 Caravan, registration 8R-KAB, operated by Jags Aviation. The second occurred at 08:15hrs and involved an ASL Cessna 208 Caravan, registration 8R-GCB.
Preliminary findings indicate that the Jags Aviation aircraft sustained a puncture to its left landing gear tyre while manoeuvring in the parking area.
No injuries were reported in either incident and there was no significant damage to the aircraft.
The GCAA said it remains committed to conducting a thorough investigation into both incidents to ensure the highest standards of aviation safety are upheld.
