Kaieteur Sports – West Demerara Cricket Association (WDCA) pulled off a basic 22-run win over East Bank Cricket Association (EBCA) yesterday when action continued at the MMZ Ground.
West Demerara, taking first strike were restricted to 82 all out in the 24th over with a whopping 32 Extras; another mixed performance by a talented bunch of lads in this competition.
Only opener Arvin Suknanan (17) and all-rounder Amrit Singh (13) made any effort to get going, as Rupie Rajaram (3-26), skipper Joshua Budhram (3-16) and Vinesh Kaploo (2-6) kept East Bank in the match.
Unfortunately, WDCA Captain and opening batsman Parmeshwar Ram who continues to unlock a new aspect of his game with the ball, led his bowling unit well.
The blossoming all-rounder snared impressive figures of 4-14 which earned him the MVP match award and essentially set up his team’s eventual win.
Support came from Robin Seecharran (3-10) and Navindra Sankar (2-27), who did a phenomenal job in defending their below 100-run total, while keeping the Extras to 13.
EBCA middle-order batsman Yeshua Huston played a good hand, scoring 20 along with Kaploo (18) but in the end failed to achieve what was an easy victory.
East Bank at one point looked set on course for victory before imploding at the back end of the innings, slipping from 60-7 to 60-10 in a matter of overs, thanks mainly to Seecharran who mopped up the tail. (C. Ross)
