(Kaieteur News) – Police are investigating an alleged armed robbery committed on a 22-year-old gold miner, who was reportedly robbed of approximately $1,196,000 worth in jewellery on Sunday.
According to a police report, the incident occurred around 20:15hrs at Lot1979 Farm Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara. The victim, Kahlid Alexander of Lot 06 Airy Hall Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara was robbed of one 15 penny weight spanish link gold chain valued $285,000; one 44 penny weight Bismarck pattern gold chain valued $836,000; and one 4 penny weight gold ring valued $75,000.
Investigation revealed that Alexander on Sunday night had arrived at his friend Telson Eastman’s residence at Farm about 19:30hrs where he parked his motor car facing on a bridge. The young man remained standing there with his friend and four other men, and while they were talking, they noticed a light blue Premio motor car (number unknown at this time) came from the eastern direction, circled the area and turned into the street that runs north to south.
It was reported to the police that the driver then parked the vehicle in the street and turned off the light, shortly after which a man exited the car and ran up to them. He was reportedly dressed in dark clothing with a black T-Shirt around his face and had a gray backpack.
Reports are that the suspect approached Alexander and pointed a black handgun to his chest area and demanded that he takes off his gold jewellery and put them in the bag, to which he complied. “The suspect then pointed the gun towards the other males and asked them what they have, however after he received nothing else, the suspect ran in the southern direction and boarded the awaiting vehicle which drove off in the said direction,” the police reported.
The incident was reported to the Farm/ Herstelling Police Station. Police said they received CCTV footage which will be reviewed as part of the investigation.
