(Kaieteur News) – After nearly a decade of anticipation, Linden today proudly unveils its state-of-the-art Track and Field Stadium, a facility being hailed as the town’s newest crown jewel and a transformative addition to Guyana’s sporting landscape.
Originally commissioned in 2016 under the APNU+AFC Government, the project faced years of delays despite an initial completion target of 2019. Now, in 2026, the doors are finally open, marking a significant milestone not only for Linden but for national sport as a whole.
The modern facility boasts a full track and field complex along with a FIFA-standard football pitch, positioning it as one of the most versatile sporting venues in the country.

Today, the venue will host the highly anticipated return of the historic Linden versus Georgetown football clash.
Its completion represents a major step forward in providing athletes with the infrastructure needed to train and compete at higher levels, while also creating new opportunities for community engagement and entertainment.

Track and field athletes will also take to the surface in a showcase event symbolizing the rebirth of competitive athletics in the mining town.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, the celebrations will conclude with a major concert featuring several of Guyana’s top artistes and deejays, blending sport and culture in a way that reflects Linden’s vibrant identity.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr., played a pivotal role in bringing the project to completion.
Upon assuming office during President Irfaan Ali’s first term, Ramson made a public commitment to ensure the long-stalled facility would be finished.
Beyond simply completing construction, he pushed for enhancements designed to elevate the stadium to modern standards, ensuring it could serve athletes and spectators for years to come.
The stadium is expected to become a hub for regional and national competitions, while also serving as a training base for emerging athletes from Linden and surrounding communities.
Its FIFA-standard pitch opens the door for hosting top-tier football matches, while the track provides a long-needed boost to athletics development outside of Georgetown.
For residents, the reopening carries emotional weight. Generations of Linden athletes have produced outstanding performances on makeshift or aging facilities. Now, young sportsmen and women will have access to a venue that matches their talent and ambition.
