DCB U13 Tournament to Strengthen Youth Cricket Development in Demerara
– Round 1 bowls off Wednesday
Kaieteur Sports – The Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) will commence its 2026 Under-13 Cricket Tournament on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at the LBI Cricket Ground, as part of its continued programme to develop and identify young cricketing talent across Demerara.
The tournament will feature three teams — DCB Hawks, DCB Falcons and DCB Crows — comprising promising Under-13 players selected from across the county.
The competition is designed to provide young cricketers with meaningful match experience in a structured and competitive environment while allowing coaches and selectors to assess their technical development, temperament, discipline and overall understanding of the game.
Importantly, the tournament will also provide the DCB Selectors with the opportunity to assess the participating players and select the Demerara Under-13 squad for participation in the upcoming Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Inter-County Under-13 Tournament.
The DCB views cricket at the Under-13 level as an important foundation in the development pathway, providing players with the opportunity to strengthen their skills and prepare for progression into the Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 levels.
Following the preliminary matches, players will be assessed for selection to the two DCB Select teams, providing another opportunity for the more promising performers to compete and further demonstrate their development.
The tournament forms part of the DCB’s broader commitment to creating a clear and sustainable pathway for young cricketers, with emphasis on coaching, competitive opportunities, talent identification and preparation for higher levels of cricket.
The Demerara Cricket Board remains committed to investing in grassroots and youth cricket and providing young players throughout Demerara with opportunities to develop their abilities in a structured environment.
The DCB encourages parents, clubs and cricket supporters to attend the matches and support the continued development of Demerara’s young cricketers.
All matches will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the LBI Cricket Ground.
