CWI Women’s Blaze T20 Championships Round 1…
Kaieteur Sports – The defending champions Guyana face-off against Windward Islands today in St. Vincent, as the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Regional T20 Championships bowl off today.
Guyana will open the tournament versus Windwards today from 9:00h, as part of the triple-header.
Other Round 1 matches today features Leeward Islands playing Jamaica from 14:30h with Trinidad and Tobago playing under lights against Barbados
The team left in high spirits following a period of structured preparation and team bonding during an intensive encampment held between the Everest Cricket Ground in Georgetown and the Lusignan Cricket Ground on the East Coast of Demerara.
The encampment, which ran over six days, focused on technical skills, tactical execution, fitness conditioning, and match-simulation exercises as the players prepared to defend their Regional T20 Blaze title while also targeting success in the 50-over format.
The Guyana squad will be under the watchful eyes of Head Coach Tremaine Smartt, and her Deputy Clive Grimmond with experienced West Indies international Shemaine Campbelle captaining the side.
One huge plus is the inclusion of Blaze T20 player of the tournament for last year, spinner Plaffianna Millington will also be a huge factor in the tournament given her recent form with the ball over the past two years both locally and regionally.
The Regional T20 Blaze will be contested first, followed by the Regional 50-over Championship, providing the Guyanese players with an opportunity to compete across formats against the region’s top women’s teams.
The Guyana Cricket Board has expressed strong confidence in the experienced Shemaine Campbelle-led Guyana squad, noting that the defending champions are focused, well-prepared, and ready to defend their title.
The President of the Guyana Cricket Board, Bissoondyal Singh, stated that the team’s blend of experience, leadership, and depth has created a positive and confident environment, with players showing strong commitment throughout their preparations.
He emphasized that the GCB is fully confident in the squad’s readiness and believes the team is well-positioned to perform creditably while proudly representing the nation and defending their title as champions.
All matches will be played at the Arnos Vale Cricket Stadium.
