DCB Inter-Association 50-over U-19 Tournament…

Shaun Massiah presents spinner Reyaz Latif with the MVP match award.
Kaieteur News– Inter-association Under-19 cricket action continued this past weekend with big wins for Georgetown and East Bank, as play intensifies heading into this upcoming round.
At LBI, Georgetown raced to 300-5 by the end of their 50 overs, batting first. Opener Khush Seegobin struck an aggressive 80 off 76 with 7 fours and 5 sixes.
Jonathan Mentore also played a fantastic hand, steadying the innings with his 96-ball 78 featuring 8 fours and a six. West Indies Under-19 batsman Shamar Apple was also on show, pummelling 51 off a mere 41 balls with four fours and a pair of maximums.
Georgetown also had vital contributions from Dhanesh Persaud who scored a crucial 32 (3x4s, 1×6).
Arun Gainda led East Coast’s bowling with 2-38, a mild performance by the East Coast lads, who followed up with a shoddy batting performance being rolled over for 119 in the 30th over.
Opener Yannick Newton punched 45 off 36 with 6 fours and two sixes. His partner at the top Junia Dindyal scored 19 with a quartet of fours during the pair’s half-century stand; with not much else coming from their other teammates.
Leg-spinner Reyaz Latif was the instrument of destruction, snaring magical figures of 7-21 with hemp from Ravaldo Pereira (2-12) and Dave Mohabir (1-8).
At Police Ground, Upper Demerara folded for 72 all out inside 20 overs. Errol Alder (16) and Tyric Henry (16) were the top-scorers as off-spinner Joshua Budhram bagged 4-12. Medium-pacer Ravindra Singh lent support with returns of 3-22.
East Bank reached their target with 7 wickets intact inside 19 overs. Opener Dilshan Latchman an unbeaten 29 with three fours, while Shane Shivbarran (15) and Shane Kissoondeo (10) lent the necessary support.
Cricket continues tomorrow February 26, with Georgetown tackling UDCA at Police Ground while West Demerara will face off against East Bank at Meten-Meer-Zorg Ground. Matches are set to bowl off from 9:30h.
