Kaieteur News- Domino enthusiasts across Guyana are set for one of the biggest competitions in recent years, as Masters Promotions partners with Demerara Distillers Limited’s Ivanoff Vodka brand to stage the second Ivanoff Vodka Nationwide Domino Tournament from today.
According to organisers, the tournament, set to be played at South View Tavern, South Ruimveldt, will feature teams from all 10 administrative regions competing for more than $3 million in prizes.
Today’s launch marks the start of a multi-month competition designed to elevate the traditional game while strengthening community bonds nationwide.
Organisers in a release noted that more than 100 teams are expected to participate, battling for cash incentives, trophies, hampers, and other rewards in what is being billed as the largest domino tournament staged in over a decade.
A key feature of the 2026 edition is the introduction of regional series tournaments, which will allow teams to compete within their respective regions before advancing to the prestigious “Champion of Champions” Finale, scheduled for May 1–3 in Georgetown.
The top three teams from each regional category will earn qualification to the final showdown.
Adding further excitement is the inaugural King and Queen Domino Tournament, set for May 1, with $100,000 in cash prizes and trophies up for grabs in both male and female categories.
Organisers pointed out that this addition reflects a deliberate effort to broaden participation and promote inclusivity within the sport.
The first regional tournament will take place in Bartica from February 25–27 before the competition moves across the country.
Special series events are also planned for teams representing government ministries, agencies, non-governmental organisations, the Joint Services, and private sector entities, alongside community groups and casual players through specially designed categories.
Prize incentives are substantial, with the Champion of Champions winners set to receive $600,000 and a trophy, while second, third, and fourth-place finishers will earn $300,000, $150,000, and $75,000 respectively.
The Most Valuable Player of the finals will also take home $30,000, with organisers hinting at additional surprise incentives.
Teams can register at a cost of $20,000, with each team receiving three bottles of Ivanoff Vodka and a branded set of dominoes upon registration. Playing guidelines will be distributed prior to the start of competition.
Coordinators from Masters Promotions emphasised that the collaboration with Demerara Distillers Limited has grown steadily over the years, allowing the traditional pastime to evolve into a celebrated competitive platform.
They expressed appreciation for the company’s continued investment, noting that the partnership has helped create opportunities for players to showcase their talent locally and internationally.
Marketing Manager of Demerara Distillers Limited, Larry Wills, highlighted the brand’s decade-long commitment to dominoes, describing the sport as one that unites communities and preserves a deeply rooted cultural tradition in Guyana.
He noted that the 2026 tournament continues that legacy by creating memorable experiences for players and fans nationwide.
