(Kaieteur News) – The new four-lane highway which will stretch from Versailles on the West Bank of Demerara to Parika, East Bank Essequibo, Region Three, is estimated to cost $121 billion, according to figures from the government’s engineer.
The project which is being executed through the Ministry of Housing – Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA), was opened recently at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) where 73 contractors submitted bids.
The project is divided into 17 lots and the delivery/ construction period is 20 months.
According to information provided by NPTAB, the estimated price for each lot is as follow: Lot1 – $7,954,722,982; Lot2 – $6,672,895,770; Lot3 – $6,699,850,198; Lot4 – $9,109,345,414; Lot5 – $4,506,269,359; Lot6 – $7,326,291,447; Lot7 – $5,797,776,941; Lot8 – $8,916,879,632; Lot9 – $8,622,795,570; Lot10 – $7,527,264,688; Lot11 – $5,481,315,813; Lot12 – $8,710,211,975; Lot13 – $6,257,874,276; Lot14 – $10,063,191,425; Lot15 – $8,243,701,177; Lot16- $4,980,929,581; and Lot17 – $4,655,552,452. The estimated figures bring the overall total to $121,525,868,700.
Among the contractors who bid for the project are: Adamantium Holdings and Qingjian Group Company (Guyana) Inc. (joint venture); Guyamerica Construction Inc.; Manohar Services, JJ Mining & Construction, Proconstruct Solutions, Trinity Property Developers Inc. & J&L Supplies Guyana Inc.; NABI /Dyrock Construction Inc; China Railway First Group Co. Ltd; International Import & Supplies; Kallco Guyana Inc.; China Road and Bridge Corporation; K.P. Thomas and Sons contracting Inc; Hoosein-FHC-HLS (joint venture); Conecta Infraestructa S.A.S Constructora Rodsa S.A. and Excel Guyana EPC Inc. (in joint venture with) Dayuan International Engineering Co. Limited and Latitude Geospatial Consulting Inc.; Urban Edge Builders Inc; and Plans 4 U Enterprise and Cornerstone Aggregates Inc. Kaieteur News understands that the new highway project forms part of the Schoonord to Parika road link which is being built in phases.
CHPA had reported previously that the new four-lane thoroughfare is expected to significantly reduce travel time, improve connectivity, and support ongoing economic expansion across Region Three.
