Trans Guyana Airways signs on as latest sponsor of KFC Int’l Goodwill Football Tournament
Kaieteur Sports – Trans Guyana Airways has joined the growing list of corporate partners backing this year’s Petra-organised KFC International Secondary Schools Goodwill Football Tournament. The airline’s support was confirmed yesterday during a simple handover ceremony at its lounge at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport, Ogle.
As the tournament’s official airline, Trans Guyana Airways will provide crucial logistical support for teams travelling into Georgetown for the sixth annual competition. This sponsorship significantly eases the financial burden associated with hosting the expanded 2025 edition.

The tournament kicks off on Sunday, December 14, and will feature eight schools from across the region. Guyana’s representatives include defending champions Chase’s Academic Foundation, West Ruimveldt Secondary (runner-up of the RBL U18 Football League) and Region Nine powerhouse Annai Secondary. They will be joined by St Benedict’s College of Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica’s Kingston College, Anglican Central Educational Authority of The Bahamas, Nickerie Technical Institute of Suriname, and Jose Viera De Sales Guerra of Brazil.
Speaking at the presentation, Petra Co-Director Troy Mendonca welcomed Trans Guyana Airways’ continued partnership. “The Petra Organisation is once again pleased to accept support from Trans Guyana Airways. Since we started bringing teams from Regions Seven and Nine, Trans Guyana has been there to assist. This time around, we are bringing a team from Brazil, and we are extremely grateful for this extended support,” Mendonca said.

Commercial Operations Officer Pooja Jagroo expressed the airline’s enthusiasm for being involved in the region’s premier school football showcase. “We at Trans Guyana Airways are happy to be part of the sixth Annual KFC International Goodwill Football Tournament,” Jagroo noted. “We’ve had the privilege of watching the tournament’s vision unfold over the years. It continues to grow, and we’re pleased to support its successful hosting.”
Matches will run from December 14 to 21 at the Ministry of Education Complex ground. With the addition of teams from Brazil and The Bahamas, this year’s tournament is poised to be the largest and most competitive to date.
Trans Guyana Airways’ involvement underscores its ongoing commitment to local sports and community development initiatives.
