Inter Guiana Games 2025 – Athletics…

Team Guyana was all smiles at the opening ceremony of the 2025 Inter Guiana Games at the National Track and Field Facility.
Kaieteur Sports – Inclement weather played a major role in delaying the commencement of Inter Guiana Games (IGG) 2025 at the National Track and Field Facility in Edinburgh, West Coast of Demerara, yesterday.
Persistent rain from an overcast sky laid a damp stage for the battle between Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname, which saw the opening delayed for over 2 hours.
Ministers of Sport, Charles Ramson, along with dignitaries from the other participating countries, had words of encouragement for the athletes who are ready to compete in the six disciplines over the next three days.
At the end of Day 1, the host nation turned in a solid performance with victory or 1 – 2 finishes in a majority of the individual events along with triumphs in the relays.
French Guiana had more impactful finishes than Suriname in the race for podium glory, but the latter also had a mixed bag of results.
In the Girls 14-18 100m, Guyana’s Quinyla Burnette clinched victory with a time of 12.30s ahead of her compatriot Nyah Gravesande (12.40s), while French Guiana’s Jozuana Dawane (12.60s) was third.
In the Boys 100m, Guyana’s Ezekiel Millington (10.80s) and Deuquan Farrel (10.88s) ran sub-11s to claim the top two spots ahead of French Guiana’s Nathan Noyon (11.10s).
Guyana’s Tianna Springer dominated in the Girls 14-18 400m with a winning time of 57.40s while her teammate Joanna Anthon (1:03.80s) finished second and FG’s Chelsey Ismeus (1:06.80s) was third.
In the Boys 400m, it was another 1 – 2 finishes for the home team as Tishawn Easton clocked 49.07s to beat Ade Sealey (49.81s) and Suriname’s Gjord Aloeboetoe (54.10s).
Both the 1500m races produced 1 – 2 finishes for Guyana as Adanya Glen (5:19.90s) and Kamayra Lacon (5:27.00s) dominated in the Girls, while Ebo McNeil (4:12.00s) and Jonathon Bristol (4:18.40s) were unrivalled in the Boys.
FG’s Emma Cauvin (6:17.60s) was third in the Girls 1500 while Odjee Asikende copped bronze in the Boys 1500 with a time of 4:41.20s.
The Girls 14-18 300m was won by Guyana’s Esther McKinnin (11:09.50s) ahead of the FG pair Clara Delpey (11:10.00s) and Lea Delpey (11:46.30s).
In the field events, Courtney Haynes (GUY) won the Boys High Jump, Meliane Dufay (FG) won the Girls High Jump, Nathaniel Samaroo (GUY) was triumphant in the Boys Discus and Shot Put, while Beyonce Chandler (GUY) claimed Gold in the Girls Shot Put and Discus.
Over at the triple jump pit, FG’s Janaika Ringuet won the Girls event while Deuel Europe (GUY) claimed victory in the Boys event.
The 4x400m Girls Relay was won by Guyana in a time of 4:17.50s, French Guiana was second with 4:33.60s and Suriname claimed bronze with 4:42.60s. Guyana was also victorious in the Boys 4x400m with a time of 3:35.10s, Suriname was second with 3:38.60s and French Guiana was third with 3:39.80s.
