Cancer survivors gifted memorable nature trip to Kaieteur Falls to help with healing process
(Kaieteur News) – In culminate Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Recover Guyana hosted a memorable nature trip to Kaieteur Falls on Sunday, 2 November 2025, offering ten cancer survivors an uplifting journey of reflection, resilience, and renewal.
The group of 10 Breast Cancer survivors treated to a trip to the Majestic Kaieteur Falls compliments of Recover Guyana and the Guyana Tourism Authority.
This special experience formed part of Recover Guyana’s ongoing commitment to wellness and community empowerment, made possible through support from the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA). Now in its third year, the partnership with the GTA’s forms part of Recover Guyana’s eco-tourism and green mandate, offering transformative opportunities for participants to connect, heal, and celebrate the strength of survivorship amid the breathtaking beauty of nature.
Accompanied by volunteers from Recover Guyana, the group experienced the awe-inspiring majesty of Kaieteur Falls, one of the world’s most powerful single-drop waterfalls. Throughout the day, participants engaged in mindfulness activities and moments of shared gratitude, fostering a profound sense of healing and inner peace. Many described the journey as life-affirming, offering renewed hope, strength, and purpose.
Dr. Dave Lalltoo, President and Founder of Recover Guyana, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Guyana Tourism Authority for its partnership and ongoing support. He reflected on the initiative, stating, “This journey to Kaieteur Falls was far more than a visit to one of our country’s most treasured landmarks. It was a deeply human experience of strength, survival, and connection. Recover Guyana remains steadfast in creating spaces where healing, hope, and nature come together to empower all Guyanese.”

The survivors shared their perspectives on the excursion, reflecting on its significance as a moment of healing and empowerment. Sremala Churaman shared, “The tour was simply amazing. The organizers did an outstanding job, and being surrounded by people who share the same journey was so uplifting
. It was a celebration of life, celebrating beating cancer and embracing nature.”
Thirteen-year cancer survivor Trudy Cummings expressed, “Kaieteur Falls was always a dream of mine; it was truly surreal.” Hermanetta Andrews added, “I never planned on visiting Kaieteur Falls, but this opportunity was too special to miss. The group was so bold, so full of life, and it made me feel like anything is possible.”
The Kaieteur Falls Expedition followed a series of impactful Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities that reflected Recover Guyana’s ongoing commitment to health, wellness, and community empowerment. These initiatives honoured the courage and resilience of cancer survivors while promoting education, prevention, and support.
A key highlight was the Annual World Food Day Health Outreach, held at Recover Guyana’s headquarters. During this event, community members received free medical check-ups, cancer awareness talks, and wellness education, emphasizing the importance of holistic health and early detection. This year, Recover Guyana distributed fresh green baskets to community members as part of the outreach, marking the organisation’s third consecutive year of providing nutritious hampers in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In addition, Recover Guyana participated in nationwide initiatives, including tree wrapping activities and cancer awareness walks, uniting with communities and organizations across the country to show solidarity and spread hope.
As a registered non-profit organisation, Recover Guyana remains dedicated to empowering communities, protecting the environment, and advancing sustainable development across the nation. Through innovative programmes such as SHOUT, which engages youth in sustainability, and ENGAGE, which promotes green entrepreneurship, the organisation continues to drive meaningful and lasting change with support from its partners.
