Gold miner drowns at Cuyuni backdam
(Kaieteur News) – A 24-year-old gold miner lost his life on Sunday after reportedly falling overboard from a pontoon while working at a backdam in the Cuyuni area, Region Seven.
Dead: Mark Ferreira
According to information reaching this publication, the dead man has been identified as Mark Ferreira, a resident of St. Cuthbert’s Mission, Region Four.
While an official police report is yet to be released, the incident is under investigation.
The young man leaves to mourn his parents, siblings and grandmother who he resided with in St. Cuthbert’s.
Announcing the news about Ferreira’s death, Toshao Alvoro Simon on his Facebook page on Sunday afternoon stated, “The VC (Village Council) has received reliable information that Mark Ferriera has passed away in the interior, where he was employed. The VC expresses our deepest condolences to the parents, siblings and family members. We will continue to keep all persons affected by today’s events in our thoughts and prayers.
This publication understands that earlier on Sunday another young man from the village also died.
