Kaieteur Sports – Affiance Sports Club and Reliance Hustlers Sports Club recorded victories last Sunday in the opening round of the North Essequibo Cricket Committee (NSCC)/Jairam Bisessar T20 round-robin competition.
At Affiance ground on the Essequibo Coast, Region 2 (Pomeroon-Supenaam), Affiance Sports Club defeated Richmond United Cricket Club by nine wickets while at Reliance, Reliance Hustlers Sports Club got the better of Bacchus X1 by 32 runs.
Richmond batted first after winning the toss and only managed a modest 143-8 from their 20-overs while Affiance responded with 146 in the 12th over.
Former Guyana youth player Parmesh Parsotam led the way with an attacking, unbeaten 64 and he got excellent support from Yogesh Singh, who struck a blazing 62 not out.
The right-handed Parsotam clobbered four sixes and three fours while Singh slammed five sixes and two fours.
They also featured in a match-defining, 128-run second wicket stand.
Earlier, Sugrim Ahiram top-scored for the visitors with 35 while Glendon Smith and Tyrese Stephney contributed 22 and 20, respectively.
Amit Persaud grabbed 2-15 from his maximum four overs bowling for Affiance Sports Club. He got good assistance from Haimant Singh (2-25) and Shaaziff Mohamed (2-26).
And at Reliance Sports ground also on the Coast, Reliance Hustlers reached a respectable 168-6 at the expiration of the 20-overs while Bacchus X1 replied with 136-5 when the 20-overs ran out.
Ex-Essequibo Senior Inter-County player Narindra Madholall hit a pugnacious 57 to inspire Reliance Hustlers to their total.
The left-handed Madholall hammered four sixes and two fours. Raj Goordeen was also in prolific form knocking an enterprising 46 which contained three sixes and similar number of fours.
Navin Singh picked up two wickets for 19 (04) to be Bacchus X1 most successful bowler after they were asked to bowl first.
When Bacchus X1 batted, Rawl Scouth scored a fighting 56 and H. Martinborough making 39 while Singh returned with the bat adding 32 runs.
Carlos Yhap and Ryan Shivamber claimed two wickets apiece for Reliance Hustlers.
