(Kaieteur Sports) – United We Stand’s star cyclist, Briton John, delivered a commanding performance on Monday to win the Elite Category 15-lap race at the 2025 Trifecta Memorial Road Race, held around the Amelia’s Ward Circuit in Linden.
Hosted by the Flying Stars Cycle Club, the event attracted top-tier talent from Georgetown and Linden, showcasing a fierce level of competition across multiple categories.
John, riding with poise and tactical brilliance, overcame early pressure to take control of the 15-lap Barnard Street circuit. Although he did not initially lead, the seasoned champion found his rhythm midway through the race, launching a powerful push that forced his main rivals, Aaron Newton and Marcus Keiler, into a relentless chase.
In a thrilling finish, John made his decisive move with just under three laps to go, pulling away from the peloton. Newton mounted a spirited defence but was unable to reel him back. John crossed the finish line comfortably in first place, while Newton settled for second, and Keiler claimed third.
Briton John also collected six prime point prizes, underlining his dominant showing on the day.
In the Junior 10 lap race, Alex Newton wearing the KFC Evolution jersey staved off the challenge of Alexander Leung of Continental CC who got second, ahead of Kaieteur Attack’s cyclist Ajani Cutting who placed third.
In the Masters 40 Plus category 10-lap race, Kaieteur Attack CC cyclist Kwame Ridley won the first-place accolade ahead of Segun Hubbard of KFC Evolution who placed second, and in third place was Richard Lewis of Continental Cycling Club.
When the Masters Over 50 race for 10 laps was held, Flying Stars’ Ian Jackson copped first place beating KFC’s Mark Spencer into second position, as Joelyn Joseph representing Linden took third place.
In the Category 4 category which was a 10-lap race, the victorious cyclist was Kaieteur Attack’s Julio Melville who won from club mates Mark Sinclair and Kwame Fortune respectively. Melville also won three sprint prizes and Colin Williams one.
The Juvenile three lap race saw Linden’s Kevin Stephens copping first ahead of Flying Ace’s Danish Sukhai.
The race for female cyclists covering a distance of three laps saw Continental CV’s Abigail Jeffrey winning from Flying Stars CC’s Ashley Rutherford.
Proprietor Bernard Hodge, one of the main sponsors in Linden, was given high praise for his support, which included the preparation of the layout for the race with his staff of Bernard’s Payless Variety Store of Amelia’s Ward in Linden.
The day’s criterium races were in honour of cycling legends Hasley Parris, George ‘Speedy’ Binning, Jon ‘Doc’ Anderson, Barry Massey Jr, Michael ‘Brother Mike’ Simpson and Samuel Barker.
Prizes and cash incentives won by the top finishers were handed out after the various races were completed.
Looking ahead, the third promotion in this year’s Trifecta Memorial races is set for Saturday in Georgetown starting at 2.30pm, outside the Guyana Defence Force, Ayangana Base on Vlissingen Road.
