Kaieteur News – The Guyana Police Force’s Narcotics Branch and Regional Division 6 on Sunday found and destroyed more than $409M worth of cannabis during two operations in the Upper Berbice River area. Police also found two unlicensed twelve-gauge shotguns and ammunition.
In a statement police said that the first operation was conducted at Zion, Upper Berbice River, where two acres of land was discovered. “The plot of land was being prepped for cultivation. A make shift camp was also discovered a short distance away from the fields, along with a drying area. The camp was about 30×20 feet in size and consisted of a living and kitchen area. The camp also contained about 350 lbs of dried Cannabis. The camp and dried cannabis were destroyed by fire,” police said.
The value of the dried cannabis destroyed amounts to $𝟏𝟒𝟐,𝟖𝟖𝟏,𝟒𝟖𝟎.
Meanwhile, between 05:00hrs and 10:20hrs Sunday, ranks from the Narcotics Branch and Regional Division 6 conducted a separate eradication exercise at Kalkuni, Upper Berbice River during which a plot of land measuring about two acres was discovered.
The land contained about 3000 cannabis plants ranging from two to seven feet in height. “A makeshift camp and drying area was also discovered a short distance away. The camp was about 30×20 feet in size and contained about 650 lbs of dried Cannabis. Further searches of the camp were conducted and two twelve-gauge shotguns with no visible serial numbers, along with nineteen (19) twelve-gauge cartridges, were found,” police said.
The narcotics plants valued $𝟏,𝟎𝟏𝟔,𝟒𝟎𝟎 while the dried cannabis was valued $𝟐𝟔𝟔,𝟑𝟔𝟕,𝟕𝟐𝟎.
Police said it took possession of both firearms and took them to the Narcotics Branch to be submitted to the Ballistics section for analysis. The camp, along with the dried cannabis and plants, were all destroyed by fire.
