Bandit found dead after robbing Lethem businessman
(Kaieteur News) – One of three bandits was found dead on Tuesday with gunshot wounds following an armed robbery at Lethem, Central Rupununi, Region Nine. Another was reportedly later arrested and is in police custody while the third remains at large.
The trio was reportedly in a gun fight with police during a chase.

Police said that the bandits robbed a 27-year-old businessman around 14:00 hrs at a business enterprise at Lethem. The victim was conducting business inside the building when two men, one of whom, was armed with a handgun.
The duo approached the cashier area and the armed bandit pointed the gun at victim and demanded that he handed over the money.
The businessman complied and handed over a total of $650,000 in Guyana dollars and Brazilian Reais.
A quantity of the stolen cash was found in a haversack.
The duo then fled the store where a third suspect was waiting for them on a motorcycle. They mounted bike and escaped.
A report was made to police in Lethem and ranks responded promptly.
Ranks conducted searches in the areas were the suspects reportedly escaped to and eventually found them.
Instead of surrendering, the suspects tried to evade police and reportedly shot at ranks in an attempt to get away.

Ranks fired back even as the suspects reportedly managed to make their way through a flooded and “heavily bushy area,” police said.
However, two of the three thieves did not get far. A 35-year-old male of Culvert City, Central Rupununi, was arrested. He remains in police custody assisting with investigations.
A second suspect was later found dead with gunshot wounds behind Plastic City, Bon Success, Tabatinga, Lethem. He was identified as 18-year-old Edward Arjune, called “Black Spanish” of Lethem, Central Rupununi.
Police were also able to locate the get-away motorcycle, along with two helmets suspected to have been used during robbery.
A haversack found in the area was searched and a quantity of the stolen cash was found.
Police are on the hunt for the third suspect.
