(Kaieteur News) – A single mother and her three children are now homeless after a fire, deemed to be maliciously set, destroyed their two-storey Port Mourant, Corentyne home early Tuesday morning.
The mom, 29-year-old Stephanie Cecil, of Free Yard, Port Mourant, told Kaieteur News that she is a security guard attached to Queensway Security Service Inc. She recalled that her cousin’s son called out to her frantically while she was at her mother’s home a short distance from her home.
“He was shouting my name, and I jump up, and when I jump up and I run out, he tell me my house on fire,” Cecil said noting that she was in disbelief.
The woman said she dashed over to her home but by the time she got there, her house was completely flattened. She was unable to save anything.
Cecil explained that after returning home from her shift at 23:30hrs on Monday, she secured her home properly and proceeded to her mother’s location, as two of her children were with their father, and the other remained with her.
The woman and her children lived at the location for nearly five years. She disclosed that she has since lost several important documents, her son’s phone and her daughter’s electronic tablet.
“We do not have anything. I’m at my mom for now, until I catch up back myself, then I will look for a place or see to make a lil one-bedroom something behind my mother,” Cecil told Kaieteur News.
Further, the woman believes that her home was maliciously set on fire by her ex-lover.
“I suspect my ex, because me and he had it out the same Monday night at my workplace, and I don’t get the spirit to come home, because I frighten he come by me and do me anything, that’s why I go and sleep by my mother the night. I suspect him, because he send me a message yesterday saying that he coming for me, lemme look out for him. And he send me a picture with a gun,” the woman told Kaieteur News.
Meanwhile, Divisional Fire Officer, Clive McDonald told this publication that “the fire was maliciously set”. The official said that the fire was reported at 05:17hrs on Tuesday at Third Street, Free Yard, Port Mourant, Corentyne. Two units from the Rose Hall Fire Station responded, but at the time of arrival, the fire had already destroyed the two-storey wooden building.
The single mother is pleading with the public for assistance. Persons desirous of assisting can contact her via 634-3115.
