Kaieteur Sports – Softball action continues today with the Playoffs in the male category of 2nd edition of the Caribbean Building Concepts and Logistics Inc. Region 3 Softball Cricket Cup will get underway today, 14th September, at the Meten-Meer-Zorg sports club ground and will see Anna Catherina take on Notorious Allstars, while Falcons will battle Bacchus Softball team to book a place in the finals.
The day is said to be be action packed as the female teams will get in action from 9 am, and the winners will advance into the playoffs.
In the preliminary matches, which were played last week at the said venue, Bacchus XI defeated Parika Outlaws in game one. Outlaws batted first and 114-8 off their allotted 10 overs, with Azim Mohammed scoring a brilliant 66(22), while Salim Jamat picked up 2 for 13. In reply, Bacchus XI scored 115-6 off 9.4 overs with Ricardo Poloram 41(18) and Kawson Joseph 23(13). Rodney Samson bagged 2/14 and Azim Mohammed 2/20.
In the second, Notorious Allstars defeated Spartans. Spartans batted first and scored 97-10 off their allotted 10 overs with Lojan 36(17), while Brian picked up 3 for 6. In reply, Notorious Allstars made 98-4 off 5.4 overs with Troy 44(17), while Ramsaywak was the pick of the bowlers with 2/8.
The third match of the day saw Falcons get past Trendsetters. Trendsetters batted first and scored 130-9 off their 10 overs, with Poloram top scored with 38 off 16 and H Boodhoo 31(16), while N Williams picked up 3/22. In reply Falcons made 132-8(9.5 overs), with A Seepersaud 58(22) and G Narine 32(12), O Mohamed bagged 2/29.
In the final match of the day in the preliminary games, Anna Catherina defeated Elite XI. Anna Catherina batted first and made 99-5(10 overs) with Ragoobar 40(26) and Nazim 27(19). In reply, Elite XI made 96-10(10 overs) with Kelvin Kujal 26(12), while Ragoobar took 2/16.
Supporting the tournament are 3 S Legacy Enterprise, Paint Palace, Rewind Restaurant and Lounge, Zony General Service and Auto Sales, Archie & Son Stone and Sand Supply, Khrishna Mangal & Sons Sawmill and Lumber Yard, S. Maraj Contracting Services, Century Spring Water, Amit’s (Deen) Cell Phone and Repair Shop and Caribbean Building Concepts and Logistics (CBCL Inc.).
According to the organisers, softball cricket is the grassroots of all cricket, allowing young, local, talented players to showcase and develop their skills in the game, and helping them progress to various levels of cricket.
The organisers further stated that softball cricket at the grassroots level not only allows local players to showcase their talents but also brings people together, regardless of race, religion, social status, or political affiliations.
