Kaieteur News – The body of a 69-year-old man was on Monday found floating in the Supenaam Creek, Essequibo Coast hours after he left his Wakenaam Island home.
The dead man has been identified as Abdil Ramjan Khan.
According to police, the subordinate officer-in-charge of the Aurora Police Station received a telephone call at about 07:10h informing that a body was seen floating along the Supenaam waterfront area.
“The scene was subsequently visited by a senior rank and detectives. On arrival, the body of a male was seen floating at the Supenaam waterfront in the vicinity of the Farmers’ Wharf.
The body was fished out of the water, examined by detectives and blood was observed oozing from the ear. However, no marks of violence were seen on his body,” police said in a statement to the media.
Khan’s body was subsequently identified by his son-in-law, Navindra Thomas, a 34-year-old minibus driver also of Wakenaam.
The pensioner’s body was then taken to the Suddie Public Hospital, where it was pronounced ‘dead on arrival’.
Thomas told investigators that on Sunday at about 11:00h, Khan left Wakenaam alone with his 40 HP outboard engine wooden boat to go to Supenaam to purchase engine parts but he never returned.
The minibus driver said that about 19:40h he travelled to Supenaam in search of his father-in-law and upon his arrival he said his father-in-law’s boat moored at the Supenaam waterfront and his clothes on the ground next to the stelling close to where the boat was moored.
Thomas further told investigators that on the said date at about 19:40 hours, he travelled to Supenaam in search of his father-in-law and upon his arrival, he saw his father-in-law’s boat moored at the Supenaam waterfront and his clothes were on the ground next to the stelling area leading to where the boat was moored.
As a result, Thomas visited the Aurora Police Station and made a missing person report.

The scene was further scrutinised and canvassed for CCTV cameras that were found on a house opposite where the boat was moored. The footage was reviewed and showed Khan falling into the river.
Investigations are ongoing.
