The courageous starting eleven for CFU U14 Challenge Series Tier II semi-final match against French Guiana at the Larry Gomes Stadium
Kaieteur Sports – The Guyana Junior Lady Jaguars saw their historic run at the CFU U14 Challenge Series come to a dramatic end yesterday, falling 7-6 on penalties to French Guiana at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Trinidad.
The young Jaguars showed grit and determination from the opening whistle, keeping their French counterparts at bay in a tense, goalless draw through regulation and extra time. Both defenses held firm, with neither side able to break the deadlock despite flashes of attacking intent and a few near misses.
With nothing separating the two after extra time, the semifinal was decided from the spot. Guyana converted crucial penalties under pressure, but French Guiana proved just as sharp and one kick better, edging the Jaguars 7-6 in a nail-biting shootout.
Though the result was bittersweet, the Junior Lady Jaguars exit the tournament as Tier II Group C champions, having shown remarkable progress and resilience throughout the campaign.
“This is an experience these girls will carry with them for years,” a team staff member reflected. “They fought for every ball, matched a strong opponent, and proved they belong on this stage.”
While their journey ended just short of the final, the young Jaguars return home with valuable lessons, confidence, and pride in a performance that signals a bright future for women’s football in Guyana.
