Kaieteur Sports – West Coast Warriors finished at the top of the points’ standing (26 points) after the preliminary-round stage completed last Sunday in the 2025 New York National Cricket League Division 1, 30-over competition.
Warriors recorded 12 wins from their allotted 15 games with one defeat, one tied-match and one no-result leaving them just above Imperial Cricket Club, who finished in second position.
Defending champion Imperial Cricket Club also finished with 26 points but Warriors edged them out by a better net-run rate: Warriors (2.8703), Imperial (2.0890).
With 8 teams suffering elimination, the play-offs segments slated to commence on Sunday with West Coast Warriors coming up against NYC Eagles Cricket Club while Imperial Cricket Club will confront Daves West Indians Imports Cricket Club.
The four other teams still in the race for the championship honours are: New York Alliance and Renegades, Whim Boyz, GT Fire and Empire Cricket Club.
The semi-final segment will play the following Sunday (2025-08-31) while the curtains are set to come down Sunday, September 7 with the two finalists at Baisley Pond venue, Queens, New York.
Meanwhile, skipper of West Coast Warriors and former Guyana youth player Kevin Christian led the runs chart with 677 runs inclusive of a century (136) and five half-centuries.
His teammate Youghestir Bachan was also outstanding with both bat and ball. He chalked up 549 runs while taking 13 wickets with his right arm medium bowling, while Naipaul Iyana of Daves West Indians tallying up 507 runs.
Seamer Javed Shafeek ended with the most wickets (23) for Warriors while leggy Brandon Cabose and off-spinner Avi Dhanpaul also high on the wicket-column accounted for 18 victims apiece. Avinash Lallbeharry of GT Fires closed off with 27 wickets.
Seasoned campaigner and co-owner of West Coast Warriors Rajendra Khan expressed elation with the outcome and optimistic the boys will win the championship this year.
He attributed the success to hard-work and excellent cricket in both departments.
“We have been playing some really good cricket since the start of the season; the guys have shown consistency and I think that is what’s important,” Khan, the opening-order batsman, revealed.
Quizzed on the preparations for the backend of competition, Khan responded: “We [are] a team that keeps focusing on the tasks ahead; as I said the commitment is there by each and every player and we come every time to play positive cricket; basically, I can say we plan and then execute,” an enthusiastic Khan commented.
