Kaieteur Sports – Former national wicketkeeper/batsman Stephen Bamfield remembered his former club Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) by donating I-pads cricket bats and pads. The donation was made recently.
Bamfield represented the DCC with pride and dignity during the seventies and early eighties before he migrated to the USA.
He scored his only first class century during the Demerara vs Berbice Inter-County finals at the GCC, Bourda in October, 1983 hitting an even hundred.
He made his senior first class debut for Guyana in 1972. Because of the presence of the late Milton Pydana behind the stumps, Bamfield had to wait until 1986 for a national team recall and he grabbed the opportunity behind and in front of the stumps.
Bamfield scored his highest regional first class score, 83, vs the Viv Richards led Leeward Islands at GCC, Bourda.
A moment of glory came in 1987 for Stephen Bamfield when he played an integral role when the Roger Harper led Guyana team won the Shell Shield. This was his final year in national colours and the DCC star went out in glory.
Statistician Charwayne Walker informed that now in 2026 Stephen Bamfield remembered where it all started by humbly giving to the future up and coming youngsters of the club to learn the trade. Among those present were DCC legend and ex-executive Mark Harper and former national Under-21 champion allrounder Robin Kendall.
Walker noted that Stephen Bamfield is extremely proud that another DCC product, a wicketkeeper/batsman like himself, Tevin Imlach, is the national captain that led the Guyana Harpy Eagles to back to back regional first class championships and is the present West Indies wicketkeeper/batsman. His message to the DCC youths, is keep pursuing your academic career while playing sports.
