Kaieteur Sports – In the second semifinal of the ongoing Commissioner of Police T20 Cricket Competition, the Police Officers’ team secured their place in the final with a commanding victory over the Region 4 A & B combined, during an exciting game at Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary.
Region 4 A&B won the toss and chose to bowl first. The Officers, playing without their experienced captain, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Ravindradat Budhram, were led by acting captain Superintendent Ronald Alli.
The innings started strongly with young rising star Joshua Budhram scoring 21 runs, including two boundaries. Stephen Harris followed with 31 runs from 27 balls, hitting two sixes and one four. Raheem Haynes provided a late burst of energy with an unbeaten 17 runs off just 5 balls, featuring two sixes and one four.
However, the standout performance came from Trevor Benn, who played a blistering knock of 71 not out from only 27 balls, smashing three fours and six sixes. His explosive batting helped lift the Officers from 103 for 5 in 17 overs to a formidable 175 for 5 wickets in 20 overs.
Bowling for Region 4 A & B were: Samuel Henry 4 overs, 33 runs, 2 wickets, Darson La Rose: 4 overs, 39 runs, 2 wickets.
Chasing 175, Region 4 A & B began brightly. Orin Venture top-scored with 33 runs, including two sixes and two fours, while Quincy Kendell added 17 runs with one six and two fours, and Chemroy Kendell chipped in with 15 runs. But the middle and lower order collapsed under tight bowling pressure, and they were dismissed for 120 runs in 19.1 overs.
The officers’ attack was led by the upcoming cricket star Joshua Budhram, who took 3 wickets for 14 runs in his (2.1 overs). He was supported by the ‘Golden Arm’ Troy Benn, who took the first 2 wickets for 14 runs (4 overs), Ivor Trotz: 2 wickets for 16 runs (4 overs) and Trevor Benn, Stephen Harris, and Captain Ronald Alli: 1 wicket each.
With this all-round performance highlighted by the brilliant batting and bowling of young Joshua Budhram, the Officers marched confidently into the final, where they will now battle for the CoP T20 championship title against the defending Champions, Police Headquarters.
Meanwhile, the Officers will face HQ in today’s final battle.
