Kaieteur Sports – Promising cruiserweight boxing prospect James Moore from Blueberry Hill Linden, had his preparations for an upcoming bout against overseas-based Guyanese boxer Laurex Stewart on August 9 placed in serious doubt, after he suffered injury to his right ankle after being struck while training on the Linden Highway in Amelia’s Ward yesterday (Saturday) morning.

Looking highly upset by this setback the 28-year-old was grimacing in obvious pain, when visited at his home yesterday afternoon.

He is expected to return to the Linden Hospital tomorrow (Monday) where he expects to see a bone specialist.

After being struck down on the road by a car, he was taken to the medical institution where he was treated and sent away. Police, according to information received, had detained the driver of the car and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Moore’s scheduled fourth professional fight next month now seems likely to be put on hold.

He had won his first three previous fights so far, since becoming a professional in 2021 and his last fight was against James Walcott, which he won by knockout in 2022.

His trainer Orlon ‘Pocket Rocket’ Rogers said, “Last night he went on a short jog at Obama Drive to Bamia and back. So, I told him this morning when he gets up, he would do some more work and start this afternoon.”

Moore said he was eagerly looking forward to this title fight next month, since he was certain of coming out victorious and “this is a big setback for me.”
