Prashad takes 6 for Aces against Sunshine in rain-affected ORSCA T20

Kaieteur Sports – Canada-based Guyanese Naresh Prashad created history last Sunday at Pickering High School ground having grabbed six wickets for 19 runs bowling for Aces Cricket Club against Sunshine in another match of the 2025 Ontario Round-Arm Softball Cricket Association (ORSCA) Regular Season T20 competition.

But heavy rain-fall forced the abandonment of the fixture. Aces Cricket Club was replying at a shaky 9-2 in the second over when rain intervened and ultimately halted proceedings. Prashad completed his four-over spell to leave Sunshine reeling at 97-8 in the 12th over (innings closed).

Skipper of Sunshine Anil Etwaroo, an Essequibian, stood among the capitulation with a resilient 54 which included seven effortless sixes and a four.

Etwaroo and his opening partner Khemraj Harrinarain posted up a solid, 46-run stand before Harrinarain was brilliantly caught by Faoud Mohammed off the bowling of Prashad.

Harrinarain scored 24 but once they were separated, the innings suffered a dramatic collapse as big-batter Imran (00), Fazil Gani (02), Avinash Sookdeo (03) and Anil Mahadeo (00) were part of the procession.

Aces Cricket Club had won the toss.

Meanwhile, skipper of Aces Cricket Club Arvindra Ramroop expressed delight with the bowling performance and was confident his team could have surpassed the target.

Quizzed on his decision to bowl first against heavyweight Sunshine and a former champion team, Ramroop responded by stating, it was a brave call but he was banking high hopes on his bowlers to come to the fore. He revealed that Prashad s an intelligent bowler and sensational performance wasn’t surprising.

Since the formation of the ORSCA in 2011, most matches playing in the West End, but in Pickering, the East End, started to host games a few years ago.

Ramroop is also thankful to the Association to have matches playing in Durham Region on a regular basis. He mentioned that they were elated to host Sunshine and would have been happier to complete the game.

Before this encounter, Sunshine was leading the points standing with six victories from as many matches in the George Singh Division while Aces Cricket Club occupying the number 2 spot.

There are two divisions, with Victor Yacoob, the other.

Aces Cricket Club was formed in 2018 and they have been participating in the ORSCA since then.

Ramroop said that the club is functioning properly due to the commitment and hard-work by the members.

According to the 25-year-old Ramroop, they will continue to play exciting cricket in all three divisions: T20, 15-overs and 10-10.

He praised his father Chintaram Ramroop and other founding members to keep the club growing from strength to strength.

While acknowledging the assiduous work by the players, Ramroop attributed the success of the club to the continued support from their main sponsors and those are Martin Singh and Associates of West Coast Berbice, Dil Chowdhury, a Real Estate Broker (Remax) in Durham Region and Mechanic Ashtaq Mohamed Inc.
