Kaieteur News – Days after the Guyana Police Force (GPF) handed over Adriana Younge’s autopsy report to her family’s lawyer, the document has been sent to United States (U.S.)-based forensic pathologist Dr. Carol Terry for an independent analysis.
Dr. Terry, who conducted a second autopsy on the 11-year-old child, is currently conducting a comparative review of her own findings against the autopsy performed in Guyana. This development marks a step further in uncovering the circumstances surrounding Adriana’s mysterious death
The 11-year-old’s family lawyer, Dr. Dexter Todd, during an interview with Kaieteur News on Friday confirmed that his clients are now in possession of the initial autopsy report. That autopsy was conducted in Guyana by a team of three international pathologists: Dr. Shubhakar Karra Paul (Barbados), Dr. Gary Collins (Chief Medical Examiner, Delaware, USA), and Dr. Glenn Rudner (Mount Sinai Hospital, USA).
Though the examination took place in April, the report was not handed over to the child’s family until June.
Adriana’s family, through attorney Todd, made numerous requests to the Police Commissioner and Crime Chief for the autopsy report and that of the investigative report compiled by retired Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officer Leonard McCoshen.
However, the GPF initially refused, stating that such reports would only be released via court order.
Despite the earlier refusal, the GPF ultimately handed over the report on Monday, June 16, 2025. Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum addressed the issue during an episode of the GPF’s podcast ‘Safeguarding Our Nation’, stating, “In the interest of full transparency, the Guyana Police Force, contrary to Standard Operating Procedures, shared with the family attorney of Adriana Younge her autopsy report.”
Once the report was received, Dr. Todd said it was immediately forwarded to Dr. Carol Terry in the United States for a quality assurance review. Dr. Terry, who had performed a second autopsy on Adriana’s body in Atlanta, Georgia, is now analysing the findings from the Guyana-based team to determine whether the procedures and conclusions meet forensic standards. Dr. Todd explained.
“Dr. Terry is going through the report bit by bit with her observations and with her assessment. She’s doing what is called quality assurance, whether that test was done at its best quality,” he told
However, Dr. Todd could not determine when Dr Terry’s report will be available due to the absence of the toxicology report, which the family has also requested from the police. According to Dr. Todd, while some toxicology findings are briefly mentioned in the autopsy report, the complete results have not been released to the family.
“I will have to confirm with Dr. Terry whether that is adequate for her to go ahead to do her further analysis, or she still needs the full report in relation to it,” Dr. Todd stated.
A meeting between Dr. Todd and Dr. Terry is scheduled for Tuesday to determine the next steps in the review process.
When asked about the contents of the autopsy report, Dr. Dexter Todd explained that while the report was more detailed than the information contained in the police press releases, it confirmed only the cause of death as drowning but did not clarify the manner in which Adriana died. He emphasized that the report does not indicate whether the drowning was accidental, homicidal, or otherwise.
“The report did not go down the line of staring the investigators that the forensic pathologists, the three of them came to the conclusion that that girl drowned in that pool. I did not get the sense that the report addressed or give that type of indication at all. So, it supported what Dr. Terry said that it requires a thorough criminal investigation. While they were silent on that, you can read the report and recognize that the report needed to be supported by a thorough criminal investigation, which is what I believe is being done,” Dr Todd explained.
The lawyer also addressed the report’s findings regarding signs of trauma. “they’re saying from the report that they didn’t see signs of trauma, et cetera, but the science does not rule that out… The report said that there are no signs of struggle, of trauma.”
Adriana Younge was reported missing during a family trip to Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, and her body was discovered on April 24, 2025, in the swimming pool of the Double Day International Hotel—just 20 hours after she disappeared. A post-mortem examination was performed on April 28 by the team of international experts who concluded that the cause of death was drowning.
