Eccles, Diamond and The Guard storm into semis for East Bank/West Demerara zone in Kares T10

Kaieteur Sports – Inaugural champions Eccles All-Stars, Diamond Gunners, and The Guard have booked their respective spots in the semi-finals for the East Bank/ West Demerara zone in the Kares One Guyana T10 Tapeball Blast.

Improved conditions on Monday after the two scheduled days were wiped out by the inclement weather saw an action-packed Monday at Laluni, Police Sports Club, and Meten-Meer-Zorg Ground.

The remaining quarterfinal, semi-finals, and final are tentatively scheduled for Sunday, July 13, from 09:30h at the Malteenoes Sports Club.

In the quarter-final, Young Steppaz will face Trendsetters. The winner will face Eccles in the semi-final, while Diamond Gunners will face The Guard in the other semi-final.

On Monday at Police, the Guard faced a serious threat from CJIA Warriors in the quarter-final, but belligerent batting led by Kevon Boddie saw them power over the line by five wickets as they chased 156 in 9.1 overs.

Boodie hammered 65 (1x4s;9x6s) from 21 balls and a timely knock of 34* (4x6s), 17 from Richie Looknauth saw The Guard win in thrilling fashion as CJIA leaked 32 in extras.
Nolan Hodge 61 (2x4s; 7x6s) gave the early fireworks for CJIA Warriors as they posted 155-3 from their allotted ten overs.

At Laluni, Diamond Gunners bowled out the hosts for 72 in their quarter-final and then chased it with ease, reaching 73-1 in 4.3 overs, led by Andrew Lim, who made a squash-buckling 54* (2x4s;7x6s) from 14 balls.

Ganesh Puran scored the first hundred in the 2025 edition of the tournament.

Dorain Grenion (3-8), Marlon Boele (2-8), and Damion Sardinha (2-16) did the damage with the ball for Diamond.

For Eccles, they sent a stern warning as they chased 105 without loss in 6.4 overs, led by Quazim Yusuf’s 70* (11x6s) from 21 balls and Jonte Thomas’s 35* (5x6s) from 19 balls against Young Guns, who earlier defeated Stripling Warriors.

The final match at MMZ recorded the highest score in the tournament’s history: Ganesh Puran’s 116* from 35 balls.

Puran struck 16 sixes and one four as Young Steppaz piled on 166-2 to beat Hyde Park by 30 runs.

Following the completion of this zone, attention will turn to the Georgetown/East Coast Zone and Essequibo zone on July 19 and 20, and July 26 and 27, respectively.

The national finals are slated for Sunday, August 3.
