Kaieteur News – The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has announced the suspension of all registration transactions from July 1 to September 14, 2025, as the agency intensifies its preparations for the upcoming General and Regional Elections scheduled for September 1, 2025.
According to an official notice posted on GECOM’s Facebook page on Friday, the suspension includes applications for registration, name changes, and transfers. The commission stated that the move is aimed at allowing its Secretariat to place more focus on the preparations and execution of the upcoming elections.
“This decision was taken to allow the Commission and its Secretariat to place unimpeded focus on the preparations for and conduct of the September 1, 2025 General and Regional elections,” the notice read.
However, GECOM clarified that Registration Offices will remain operational during the suspension period for certain essential services. These include processing applications for the replacement of ID cards due to loss or damage, as well as photo retake requests.
The suspension comes as GECOM ramps up efforts to ensure a smooth and credible electoral process. Members of the public are urged to take note of the deadlines and make the necessary arrangements.
