Kaieteur News – The Ministry of Home Affairs commissioned the newly constructed Mabaruma Police Divisional Headquarters building in Region One on Saturday.
In a brief post via its Facebook page, the ministry said that Minister Robeson Benn and Permanent Secretary Andre Ally joined regional officials and senior and junior ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to commission the building which is valued just over $213 million.
“Valued at over $213 million, this state-of-the-art facility represents a substantial investment in strengthening law enforcement services across Guyana’s hinterland. The headquarters is outfitted with modern infrastructure, including specialised units for handling sexual offences and domestic violence, child-friendly interview spaces, upgraded administrative offices, and other critical operational areas, all designed to enhance police effectiveness and foster stronger community engagement,” the ministry stated.
The ministry said that the commissioning of the facility marks a significant milestone in advancing public safety, justice delivery, and institutional capacity in Region One while underscoring the government’s ongoing commitment to building safer, more resilient communities throughout Guyana.
Of the $108.9 billion allocated to the security sector in the 2025 national budget, $4.7 billion was earmarked to address the Force’s infrastructural needs.
