Kaieteur News – An East Coast Demerara (ECD) man was arrested on Wednesday afternoon after a 13-year-old girl who was missing alleged that he had locked her up in his house for several days.
The 13-year-old girl went missing on June 18, and no one had a clue of her whereabouts. Family members said that on Wednesday morning, a taxi driver saw her walking alone at a location and picked her up. He quickly alerted family members via telephone that he had found her.
Family members advised him to take her to the nearest police station since she was found a good distance from her home. “I tell him where to take her,” the child’s mother said while recounting that the taxi driver also put the 13-year-old girl to speak on the phone.
In police custody, the girl told police that she was held against her will at a house on the East Coast of Demerara. Her exact words, according to her mother, was, “He lock me up there for couple days.”
The victim took police to a location, and there they found the suspect. He was immediately handcuffed and taken away for questioning. Reports reaching Kaieteur News are that the child was assaulted. Police are yet to release any information on the case. Kaieteur News understands, however, that it might be a case of an alleged abduction
