(Kaieteur News) – Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony has commissioned a new $30 million Health Centre and $30 million staff living quarters at Red Hill, Manawarin, Region Two, in a combined $60 million investment.
According to information released by the ministry on Saturday, the facilities will improve access to quality healthcare for approximately 500 residents of Manawarin and surrounding areas, while providing accommodation to support the retention and comfort of healthcare workers serving the community.

Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony with health workers and residents of Manawarin during the commissioning a new health centre there.
The health centre has been elevated to protect it from flooding during periods of high water, given its proximity to the river, ensuring uninterrupted healthcare services throughout the year. The facility offers a spacious waiting area and separate male and female washroom facilities to improve patient comfort and accessibility.
The centre features a telemedicine system linking healthcare workers in Manawarin with doctors and specialists at regional hospitals and the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. Equipped with devices to monitor blood pressure, temperature, oxygen saturation, and other vital signs, the system enables real-time clinical consultations, enhancing the quality of care available within the community.
A fully stocked pharmacy provides essential medications for common illnesses while supporting the ongoing management of chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes.
In support of maternal and child health, the facility includes a dedicated Maternal and Child Health Room equipped with infant weighing scales and a length board for routine growth monitoring. Trained healthcare workers will conduct regular assessments to promote healthy childhood development and improve outcomes.
The centre also includes a general examination room for outpatient consultations and clinical assessments, an observation bed for short-term monitoring before discharge or referral, a kitchenette for staff, and vaccine storage facilities to support continued immunisation services.
The newly completed staff living quarters will provide safe, comfortable accommodation for healthcare personnel, supporting the ministry’s efforts to attract and retain health workers in remote communities.
During a tour of the facilities, Minister Anthony underscored the government’s commitment to delivering modern, accessible healthcare to rural and riverine communities through sustained investment in health infrastructure. He noted that the $60 million investment reflects the government’s continued commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure across Guyana and ensuring riverine communities have access to comprehensive, high-quality care.
At the commissioning ceremony, the ministry also revealed plans to construct a jetty and boathouse at the facility, which will enable healthcare workers to conduct home visits and expand outreach services to neighbouring riverine communities.
