Kaieteur News- Two men are counting their losses after their vehicles were stolen in separate incidents, days apart in Belle West, Number Two Canal, West Bank Demerara.
The latest incident occurred on April 17, 2025. Twenty- seven-year-old Nicko Prince said his vehicle, valued at $1.6 million was stolen between 23:00h on Wednesday and 06:00h on Thursday last.
During an interview with this publication, Prince said his car contained music equipment worth an additional $180,000.
He explained that a cousin had parked the vehicle overnight in Belle West while visiting someone. However, when he woke up and made checks for the vehicle, he discovered that it was missing.
Surveillance footage from the Demerara Harbour Bridge showed the stolen car crossing the bridge, heading to the East Bank Demerara (EBD) direction around 02:00h on Thursday.
Prince stressed, “(Its) hard because that’s the vehicle that actually brings in money for me, I does actually rent (use it for business) and what’s not.”
Meanwhile, a week earlier, on April 10, 23-year-old Hermant Ramrattan also discovered that a car he had rented was stolen from directly in front of his home in Belle West.
The theft took place between 20:30h on Thursday and 05:30h on Friday. The vehicle, valued at $1 million, contained Ramrattan’s driver licence, identification (ID) card, and two bank cards.
“It affect me bad because it’s the first time something like this happen to me,” Ramrattan said. “I studying how I will get back the car.”
Both incidents were reported to the police, who have confirmed that multiple vehicles have been reported stolen from the Belle West area in recent weeks. Investigators are now exploring the possibility of a coordinated car theft ring targeting the neighbourhood.
