Kaieteur News- Dem boys seh Guyana ah turn one big open-air market, where every man, woman, and pickney with a cart, a van, or a caravan feel like dey get automatic rights to set up shop wherever dey heart desire. Pavement? Roadside? Middle ah de road? No problem! Once yuh have something to sell—whether it be phone case, cold juice, or meat – yuh is a certified entrepreneur, and de whole ah Guyana is yuh business plaza.
Once upon a time, vending was a humble hustle—a man with a tray ah peanuts or a woman with a basket ah plums walking and selling. But now? Oh, gosh! Is big-style business! Trucks park up pon de pavement like dem own de place, caravans sprout up overnight like jumbie umbrella, and mini-stalls line de roads so thick yuh would swear Guyana get a sudden population boom.
Dem boys seh if this trend continue, soon we gon have traffic jams caused not by cars, but by vendors arguing over who get to sell fry fish in front ah de police station. Imagine pulling up to Parliament and seeing a man grilling chicken in de courtyard because, hey, “business must run!”
But wait nah—is this how we building a modern nation? Where rules and order take a backseat to “mek a dollar by any means”? Where sidewalks become storefronts and highways turn into shopping aisles? Don’t get me wrong—hustle hard, eat a food, all ah dat. But when every man and he dog decide dey own de streets, what we really building? Progress… or pure chaos?
Dem boys seh if Guyana really want to move forward, we can’t just let everybody do what dem want, where dem want. Otherwise, soon we gon have a vendor selling doubles in yuh driveway… and charging yuh rent fuh de privilege. Think about dat.
