Some people just unreliable
Dem Boys Seh…
(Kaieteur News) – Dem boys seh some people résumé got more decorations than a Christmas tree. If credentials was medals, dem would need a wheelbarrow to carry them around. Everybody know them. “Call he nah! He is the best plumber, electrician, mechanic, carpenter, computer man, air-condition technician and part-time miracle worker.”
So yuh call.
The man answer “Boss, no problem. Ah coming 10 o’clock sharp.”
Dem boys seh the only thing sharp was the disappointment.
Ten o’clock pass. Eleven o’clock stretch it neck. Midday arrive sweating. One o’clock come looking for lunch. By evening, only the mosquitoes keep the appointment.
No phone call. No message. No carrier pigeon. Not even a smoke signal.
Dem boys seh if excuses was electricity, the whole country would never suffer another blackout.
Then, two days later, the fellow call as though nothing happen. “Boss, yuh still deh?”
Still deh? Of course! Waiting done become a national pastime.
Dem boys seh some of these experts operating on what scientists now calling “phantom time.” They promise to arrive tomorrow, but nobody ever discover which tomorrow they talking about.
The funniest part is that people does defend them. “But he does do good work.”
Dem boys seh a doctor can’t tell yuh, “I perform excellent surgery,” if the patient die waiting in the reception area. Skill without reliability is like buying a luxury car with no engine. It look impressive until yuh actually need it to move.
Over the years dem boys develop one simple policy. Miss one appointment without a proper explanation and yuh strike out. No second invitation. No third chance. No pleading. Even if yuh is the last man on Earth who could fix the problem, dem boys rather learn the trade themselves than spend another afternoon watching the gate every time a vehicle pass.
Life too short to spend it waiting on people who believe everybody else’s time is free.
Dem boys seh punctuality is not a talent. It is respect. And when somebody repeatedly fail to respect yuh time, is time to dump them. Dem ain’t professionals. They just experts at making appointments and failing to keep them.
Talk half. Leff half.
