2025 Banks DIH ICEE Soft Drink National Rapid Chess Championships…
Kaieteur Sports- FIDE Master Anthony Drayton showed his class as he emerged champion of the 2025 Banks DIH ICEE Soft Drink sponsored Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) National Rapid Chess Championships.
The tournament was hosted at the Exhibition Center of the Pegasus Suites & Corporate Center this past weekend, with a star-studded field which proved light work for Guyana’s lone FIDE Master.
Competitors played under a nine round Swiss format basis, with Drayton playing unbeaten on his way to the first place.
Second place was awarded to Ricardo Narine with Candidate Master Taffin Khan coming in 3rd position, after a strongly-contested tournament.
Saeed Ali and Keron Sandiford occupying 4th and 5th spots, respectively with top five players being awarded over $185,000 in cash and prizes.
GCF president Anand Raghunauth presented the awards to the respective winners following the end of the tournament. He expressed gratitude to the sponsors of both Banks DIH and Pegasus Suites for their support.
Among the 40 players were CM Loris Nathoo, Kyle Couchman, CM Sachin Pitamber, Emma John, Natoya Boodhoo among others.
