Kaieteur News- The Ministry of Agriculture is set to spend approximately $275,597,250 on rehabilitating and constructing a number of farm-to-market roads in Regions Three, Four and Five.
This is according to the Agriculture Ministry who recently issued a tender seeking bids for four road projects. According to the document, the ministry through the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) is seeking a contractor to undertake the rehabilitation to all-weather-road from Esau and Jacob bridge to Mards Compound at Mahaicony (right bank), Region Five which is estimated to cost $41,802,600.
Also in Region Five, a tender is out for the construction of an all-weather-road from Phase 1 Road to Mora Pump Station at Mahaicony Creek, which is estimated at $31,088,925. In Region Three, contractors are being invited to execute the rehabilitation of the Windsor Forest to Pouderoyen farm-to-market access road, West Coast Demerara for an estimated $117,980,100.
Meanwhile, in Region Four, the ministry will be constructing an all-weather-road at Ann’s Grove Middle Walk, East Coast Demerara for $84,725,575. With $98.7 billion expended last year to support development of the agriculture sector, Senior Minister with the responsibility for Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh said during the budget presentation that in 2025, $104.6 billion is budgeted “to continue our aggressive investment and support for the sector, recognising how critical food security is for our country and for the CARICOM region more broadly.”
