Kaieteur News- A 44-year-old contractor and his brother were placed on $25,000 each when they appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court Monday last on charges of malicious damage to property.
Leon Lowe of Apartment 3 East La Penitence was charged for maliciously damaging the property of his brother Kevin Lowe on February 28th 2025 at 3 East La Penitence and Kevin Lowe of the said address was charged for damaging two electric tweeters.
Leon pleaded guilty with explanation and Kevin pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to them by Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore. Leon was charged for maliciously damaging a motor cycle tire valued at $10,500 which belonged to his brother Kevin. Kevin was charged for maliciously damaging two electric tweeters valued at $59,000 property of Leon.
The court heard from Leon who stated that on the day in question he was at his friend’s residence for a birthday celebration while his brother was outside of the said event. Leon instructed his daughter to not let anyone interfere with his belongings and he later found out that Kevin had damaged his tweeters.
Leon approached his brother seeking compensation for the damage but he rode off and later retuned using foul language and told him “do whatever you want.” He added that because he was upset he retaliated by puncturing the motor cycle with a knife. “I had a knife in my hands and I tried to bore the bike tires but the knife break and ended up cutting my hands.” Leon said.
Later that said evening Kevin returned with two police officers who inspected the tires and confirmed they were not damaged and Kevin rode off with the same motor cycle. Magistrate McGusty imposed a $25,000 fine on Leon, while Kevin was placed on $25,000 bail. The matter was adjourned to March 31, 2025.
